Editorial Policy

Dundee’s story moves between the Tay waterfront, the city centre, established neighbourhoods and the creative and educational institutions that shape daily life. Our editorial aim is to help readers explore those different parts of the city with practical, accurate local information — not to treat every Dundee article as a waterfront itinerary.

What we cover

Dundee Insider publishes local business guides, food and drink recommendations, attractions, events and lifestyle features. We use local entities when they help readers understand the subject, find a relevant place or make a practical choice. We do not include landmarks merely to repeat the city name.

Getting local context right

Dundee Waterfront and City Quay are distinct from the wider city-centre retail area. Perth Road is a key West End corridor with university connections and independent businesses. Broughty Ferry is a coastal suburb within Dundee, while Lochee, Stobswell, Douglas, Fintry, Hilltown, Whitfield, Charleston and other neighbourhoods each have their own local context.

The Tay Road Bridge connects Dundee with Fife across the estuary; nearby places on the other bank are not Dundee neighbourhoods. We keep that geography clear in local guides and service-area content.

Dundee’s “jam, jute and journalism” heritage, Juteopolis history, maritime links, comics publishing, games development and present-day design identity each belong to a specific story. We aim to explain such references rather than use them as decoration or imply that historic industries describe the whole modern economy. Dundee’s UNESCO City of Design status is part of its contemporary identity, alongside universities, healthcare, life sciences and digital work.

Sources and changing information

We aim to use reliable sources close to the subject, such as Dundee City Council, the business, venue, event organiser, university, transport operator or public service concerned. Trading status, opening hours, menus, prices, exhibitions, fixtures, event programmes, transport and facility access can change. We check current information where practical and avoid presenting an old listing as a current fact.

Statistics and claims about the economy should include their source, date and geographic scope. A city-wide statement does not necessarily apply to a neighbourhood, and a regional organisation’s services are not all necessarily based in Dundee.

Independence and commercial relationships

Dundee Insider is an independent local information and recommendations site. A review or listing is not automatically paid for or endorsed. If a page is sponsored or contains another commercial relationship, we will identify it clearly. Commercial arrangements do not in themselves determine our editorial view.

Corrections and updates

If you spot an error, email [email protected] with the page address, the detail in question and, if possible, a reliable source. We review correction requests and update material errors where appropriate. Minor edits may be made without a separate note; for a substantial correction, we may add an editorial note to the page.

A request from a business or individual does not automatically require us to remove content. We consider accuracy, relevance, privacy, safety and the public interest. We do not publish private personal information or unverified allegations about individuals.

Scope and limitations

Our guides are selective, not a complete directory of every Dundee business, service, attraction or event. Inclusion does not guarantee quality or availability, and absence does not imply criticism. Please confirm important details with the organisation concerned.
